Customer Success Team

Last updated on May 07, 2024

Physical products refer to any tangible item sold on your website and shipped to a customer. These are the products that customers can touch and interact with in the real world. For instance, accessories, electronic devices, kitchen appliances, skin care products, etc. are physical products, that customers can browse, select, add to their cart, and proceed to checkout. After completing the purchase, the products are packaged and shipped to the address provided by the customer.

Creating a Physical Product

To create a Physical product:

  1. Go to Products > Products on the Dashboard.
  2. Click + New Product.
  3. Select the Physical Product type.
  4. Provide the requested information in the Details section:
  • Indicate the product name to be displayed to customers.
  • A unique alphanumeric code (Stock Keeping Unit) is automatically generated according to the product name. Each variant of the product has its own unique SKU. This enables you to differentiate between products and effectively manage inventory. You can edit the SKU code according to your preferences.
  • Indicate the number of product items in stock (see Settings > Locations).

  • Enter a detailed product description displayed to customers.
  • Select the product category from the list (see Product Categories) or create a new category. To do so, enter the category name in the Category field and click New Category displayed below the field.

Note: The default category name is generated in the product URL. The first Category is applied as default. To change the default category, tick the star icon next to the corresponding category.

  • Select the product brand (see Product Fields) or create a new brand. To do so, enter the brand name in the Brand field and click Create new attribute option displayed below the field.
  • Indicate the product price.
  • Indicate the product compared price. The compared price refers to the regular price of the product used as a reference to highlight the price reduction.
  • Indicate the total amount at which you produced, purchased, or obtained the product before any additional expenses or profit margins were added.
  • Activate/deactivate Product Visibility to display/hide the corresponding product.

Note: The hidden product is not visible on the category and product list. But it is visible when accessed through the URL generated in the SEO section.

5. Add product images to the Media section. To do so, click + and select the corresponding image, or upload the media content from the computer, free stock (powered by Unsplash), or insert the URL.

Tip: To make the product image default, tick the star icon on the image. The default image is displayed first on your product page. If no image is set as default, the first uploaded image is displayed instead.

6. Activate/deactivate the Variants toggle and click Manage Variants, if your product has different available versions or options (see Product Fields, Product Variants).

7. Select the product variant from the field group drop-down list if one product variant is available (see Product Fields, Product Variants).

Note: If the product field has options, expand the field name, click + Manage Options, and select the corresponding option from the list.

8. Click + New Add Field to create a new field for the product, if necessary (see Product Fields).

9. Provide the requested information in the Physical Product section:

  • Enter the product details.
  • Indicate the product dimensions.
  • Indicate the product material.
  • Enter the delivery and return information.

10. Provide the requested information in the Shipping section:

  • Indicate the product dimensions (weight, height, depth, weight).

Note: The Weight option is mandatory. It is used while calculating the shipping cost if you select the Rate by Weight shipping type (see Shipping and Delivery).

11. Provide the requested information in the Linked Products section:

  • Select the corresponding items from the drop-down list related to the physical product. These products are displayed as a suggestion to the customer during the purchase. For example, if a customer is buying a smartphone, the following cross-selling products, such as a phone case, screen protector, or pair of headphones can be suggested. These items are related to the main purchase and can be beneficial for the customer.
  • Select the corresponding products from the drop-down list that are more expensive or are a higher version of the current product. These items are displayed as a suggestion to the customer during the purchase. For example, if the customer is buying a smartphone that costs 800 $, you may suggest a more powerful smartphone model priced at 1000$ with better performance and features.
  • Select the corresponding items from the drop-down list that are related to the physical product. For example, if a customer is buying a smartphone, earbuds can be displayed as a related product that might interest the customer.
  • Tick Show selected products as related if you want the newly created physical product to be displayed as a suggestion to the selected as cross-selling, upselling, and related products. For example, if earbuds are displayed as a suggestion for a smartphone, the latter will be displayed as a related product to earbuds.

12. Provide the information requested in the SEO section:

  • Indicate the page title and meta description.
  • Modify the auto-generated URL alias, if necessary.
  • Activate the Include in Sitemap toggle if you want the product page to be added to your sitemap.
  • Select Robots Tag from the respective drop-down list to control how search engines index the product page by search engines and follow the links on them.
  • Add a social media image of your physical product that will be displayed when you share a link to your physical product page on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and others. To do so, click Upload and select the corresponding image, or upload the media content from the computer, free stock (powered by Unsplash), or insert the URL.
Note: If no image is uploaded, the product or category main images are applied by default.

13. Click Save.

If your website is available in more than one language, select the corresponding language from the language drop-down list (see Settings > Languages) and enter product-related information in the selected language.

Setting the Physical Product Status

To set the product status, select the corresponding status from the right-side drop-down list.

The following options are available:

  • Draft - the product is not visible to the customers.
  • Active - the product is visible to the customers.

Note: You can indicate whether the customer can purchase the product as a guest or registered user (see Settings > Checkouts).

Once you have created a physical product, it is automatically generated in the Visual Editor. You can select the corresponding product (see Navigation Pages) and configure the corresponding widgets in the Visual Editor to display the physical product on your website (see Ecommerce General Widgets, Product Common Widgets, and Physical Product Widgets).
