Currencies are the monetary units used to price and accept payments for products and services in your online store. Businesses selling to customers across different countries or regions should support multiple currencies. Offering multiple currency options enables a more localized and convenient shopping experience for your global customers.
Each payment gateway can support its own set of currencies. When you disable a currency for a particular payment method, it will no longer be visible on the Payment page during checkout for that specific currency.
Note: Make sure to check the compatibility of payment methods with currencies to set up relevant currencies for each payment gateway, preventing potential issues with payment processing and order confirmation.
Adding Currencies to Your Project
First, you need to add your store currencies. To do so:
- Go to Settings > Project details > Currencies.
- Click Add and select the currency you want to add from the list of supported currencies.
Repeat the process for each additional currency you want to support.
Important: Multiple currencies are supported only for the eCommerce Growth and eCommerce Unlimited plans.
Managing Currencies per Payment Method
To manage currencies for each payment method:
- Go to Dashboard > Settings > Payments.
- Click on the payment method you want to manage.
- Configure the payment method settings as needed (see Settings > Payments).
- Head into the Currency section to configure how the currency is displayed to your customers by selecting the desired options from the drop-down list.
- By default, all supported currencies of the project are selected. You can deselect options in the dropdown to customize the display. By selecting supported currencies as the payment method, you specify whether this method is displayed in case your users are trying to checkout using non-supported currencies.
Converting to a Single Currency
Besides selecting supported currencies, you can accept payments only with one currency, i.e., when customers place an order with their preferred currency, it will automatically be converted to your selected currency (see Settings > Project Details, Setting > Payments). To enable the currency conversion:
- Go to Settings > Payments > Currency section.
- Enable the Always convert to the specific currency switcher. This option allows you to get payments only on one supported currency. When enabled, it displays a Converting currency drop-down field to choose one currency to convert to.
In this case, a message will appear on the Checkout page indicating the amount in the converted currency under the payment method. The message can be edited via the Translations App within the Content Editor/CMS.
Accepting Cryptocurrencies
On your online store, you can also accept payments using cryptocurrencies if the payment gateway supports such transactions. To do so:
- Go to Settings > Payments.
- Click on the payment method you want to manage.
- Tick the This payment method can accept cryptocurrency checkbox in the Currency section to accept crypto payments.
Tip: To display the supported currencies on your website and allow your customers to choose their preferred currency, you need to add the Currency Switcher widget.
